The membrane fouling simulator was developed to quickly evaluate biofouling growth in reverse osmosis systems. It consists of a small cell with a RO membrane and spacer. The system measures the pressure drop profile over time, which will increase due to biofouling. The MFS is an easy, reliable and cheap measurement to compare biofouling potential of different waters or membrane/spacer configurations.

Membrane fouling simulator

The Convergence Inspector Membrane Fouling Simulator (MFS) is designed to perform biofouling experiments. It was developed to quickly evaluate biofouling growth in reverse osmosis systems. It consists of a small cell with a RO membrane and spacer. The systems measures the pressure drop profile over time, which will increase due to biofouling.

The Membrane Fouling Simulator is an easy, realible and cheap measurement to compare biofouling potentials of different waters or membrane/spacer configurations.

This extreme flexible system operates at a constant flow and pressure. The system is equipped with ultrasonic flowmeters with a total accuracy and reproducibility of 3% of the reading. The system can be used for:

  • Dead-end filtration experiments
  • Biofouling experiments

The system can also be modified to perform leak and integrity tests.
